CSV Continental Cup

Uruguay moved on to the next stage of the CSV Beach Volleyball Women’s Continental Cup in front of their home fans in Montevideo after seeing off Venezuela on Sunday. They will now move on to face Argentina in the next phase of the tournament, which is a qualifier for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The first day of competition was a close affair, with Venezuela taking the first match 22-20, 21-14, 15-12 before Uruguay struck back with a straight sets (21-10, 21-12) win.
Sunday begain with Uruguay’s Karina Cardozo and Eugenia Nieto facing Venezuela’s Orquidea Vera and Norisbeth Agudo with the former sealing a 22-20, 17-21, 15-8 win, taking them just one win away from qualification.
It then took Lucia Guigou and Fabiana Gomez just two sets to see off Karelys Mosquera and Frankelina Rodriguez, their 21-14, 21-14 sending them through to a showdown with Argentina. “The lack of concentration did not allow us to do our best as we had good and bad moments,” Nieto said. “We could win in the end win because we had to.” “It was outstanding, we believed it would be much harder than yesterday but we played with joy and support,” Guigou added.
“Now we will have hard training, we have only two months to get ready and Autumn is here,” Fabiana said. “Argentina will be very hard, the winners go to London and the loser stays at home waiting for a chance at the Continental Playoff at the FIVB World Cup Olympic Qualification Tournament also in June but in Italy.”

CAV Continental Cup
Mauritius are now in the final stages of counting down to the CAV Beach Volleyball Men's Continental Cup final, which is set to take place from April 13 to 15, with the eventual winners earning a ticket to the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The competition, which will be held in Flic en Flac, will feature eight teams battling it out for a place at the Games, with the second and third placed countries getting another shot at qualification through the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Olympic Qualification tournament in Tortoli, Italy in June.
Countries set to participate include Algeria, Angola, Congo Brazzaville, Egypt, Mauritius, Morocco, Nigeria and South Africa. Mauritius has seen a spike in interest for beach volleyball recently, mainly due to the women’s success at the All Africa Games in Mozambique where they took home the gold medal.
